The body of a decapitated person is discovered floating in the Magdalena River, eventually reaching Puerto Berrío where it is buried anonymously. In the community, locals have begun to adopt these unidentified bodies; the cemetery now filled with tombstones labeled "chosen," as if they were their own. However, the presence of the "headless man" instills fear among the townsfolk; they are aware of the prohibition against disturbing dismembered bodies from the river and hesitate to approach. A man known as the "Animero," responsible for tending to the souls of the cemetery, approaches the grave and marks the tombstone. He then makes a pact with his conscience, risking his life on a journey deep into the region to find the head and restore dignity to the deceased.
