Mourning Stage
Synopsis

Festivals, Awards, and Events:
In 'Mourning Stage,' a sequence of drawings serves as a performance score. These illustrations depict diverse representations of the devil in hell. Among these demonic figures are feminized characters, evoking the sexual perversions often associated with Catholic imagery. The performer, Paetau, interprets and responds to these drawings using her body and facial expressions in a ritualistic performance. Here, the body, fetishized and constrained by morality, engages in lamentation.
